I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

S*** P*** F*** C*** C***!!!!

God bless that man. God bless that wonderful, brilliant, angry man.

Losing his wife took some zip of his fastball late in life. Hopefully they're together again.

It would pretty ironic if Carlin, who derided religious superstitions such as an afterlife, was actually together again with his wife.

Mary, you forgot two, it is seven words not five. The last one sounds like a snack.

and by Mary I meant Marty... The t between the r and y apparently did not get hit.

"It would pretty ironic if Carlin, who derided religious superstitions such as an afterlife, was actually together again with his wife."

It would be ironic if God - who created people to have a sense of humor - didn't have one.

DCL - I know it;s seven. Those are my favorite

My god has a sense of humor. That's one of the reasons I chose him as my god.

I find it Ironic that Alanis Morissette does not know what the word means.

I'm guessing Joe is going for the: "a state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result" as dramatic Irony and sarcastic irony clearly don't fit. And I imagine Joe could be intending it similarly to the way in which I intend it at Alanis, that is I find it amusing that a person that would sing a song called Ironic, would not know what the word means. Joe might be intending that he finds it amusing that there is the possibility that a man that blatantly did not believe in God could potentially be hanging out at a cocktail party for new arrivals with the man at this very moment, telling dirty jokes about how he wants some Nabisco Tits. Though clearly, it couldn't be ironic to us, as we don't know the state of affairs, thus it could only be Ironic to God and or George. Which, given George I'd imagine he would be amused, especially if he ends up in heaven, or at least bemused. Actually, him ending up in Heaven could be ironic, as it would be quite contrary to what one would expect but I'm not convinced it is contrary to expectation in a deliberately amusing way. I think it would need some other humors character to it to really take it over the top into Irony. Of course, him ending up in Hell would offer some amusement to strong believers. Clearly though, as it is expected, it is not ironic, well unexpected form what George was expecting. So I suppose if he ended up there and went, oh Hell, that could be a touch ironic in a sort of wry way.

I dunno, what do we think on this Irony thing? I was going to pick on Joe, but he seems to have more of an edge case on this than I was expecting. Rain on your Wedding day, though clearly not Ironic, in some parts of the country it doesn't even rise to the level of the unexpected.

"My god has a sense of humor. That's one of the reasons I chose him as my god."

God chose you for the same reason.

Thanks, I'm sure God appreciates my sense of humor as well.

It would be ironic that if in real life Joe Mama resembles a human being.

. . . A&A's sense of humor not so much.

Seriously A&A? Are you, what, 12 years old now?

It's like rain on your wedding day.

It's a free riiiiide when you already paid.

It's the good adviiiice thatcha just didn't take...

See and I thought the Nabisco Tits comment was the funny part... Shows what I know... Corn tits ,tater tits... umm tits... (Sorry Brendan, you really expect a thread on George "the seven words" Carlin to be family friendly?)

Dammit dcl, you messed up the Alanis commenting!

Oh well:

...and who would've thought? It figgers!

life has a funny way of sneaking up on you

what a great song that was...i miss awesome songs like that ie the cranberries, stp, early smashing pumpkins etc.

dcl, if the comments didn't also show up on the comments page I would have added a disclaimer that this post may contain PG-13 language (or worse) I guess its Brendan's call at this point.

It would be ironic if David K. said something biting, insightful or funny.

And now, boy's and girls, the jokes about Irony.

in other news, for your religious entertainment value.

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/24/us/24religion.html?ref=us I must say I'm especially amused by the section of the survey that talked to "atheists" and "agnostics" (I know Brendan hates scare quotes, I say once you read the article you'll know why they are there).

Ah, fuck it.

;)

dcl - is an atheist who believes in God like Jews for Jesus?

dcl - is an atheist who believes in God like Jews for Jesus?

at a minimum, they don't own a dictionary.

I get the concept of Jews for Jesus. Jesus was a Jew. He never said anything about Jews becoming Christians...or anything about Christianity.

I think the Jews for Jesus just got sick of all this Waiting. ;}

Speaking of Whom: Jeez, Brendan, take care you don't get Lost down Memory Lane, what with your simultaneous pining for The Irish Rovers and for Alanis, here. / "Ladies and gentlemen: Pearl Jam." (Fambly joke, people, don't Fret about it. :)

I won't offend his Unbelief-system by saying Rest In Peace but George Carlin's is a voice sorely to be missed. / Certainly his irreligiosity (among other qualities :) honed his hilarious humor. Thank God he was an atheist. No, wait. :>

Venerated Joe - do you know any of Billy Connolly's stuff ?
