About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

Refuse to lose

The Jed Report makes an entertaining analogy.

Meanwhile, Hillary herself pens an op-ed explaining her RFK remarks, and outlining her case for why she's still in the race. It's basically a repetition of the same bogus arguments that she's been using all along (popular vote, swing states, etc.), plus a newly explicit playing of the gender card ("as the first female candidate in this position, I believe I have a responsibility to finish this race") and a veritably Nixonian line about how "my parents did not raise me to be a quitter." Notably, the op-ed barely mentions Michigan and Florida, and doesn't specifically use them as an independent rationale for continuing her campaign. Is she backing away from the precipice?

In any event, I think it's telling that she feels the need to defend herself in this fashion. It's never a good sign, methinks, when you're reduced to penning newspaper columns explaining why you haven't dropped out of the race yet. It's even worse when you're saying things like: "I am not unaware of the challenges or the odds of my securing the nomination - but this race remains extraordinarily close." Yeah, it's close, but so is a basketball game where one team is up by 4 and has the ball with 1.2 seconds left. It's close, but it's over. And it sounds like Hillary might be starting to realize that.

What are you going to write about when Hilldog finally does drop out of the race, you one-trick pony?

Wobbly,

does your douche bagness come in different fragrances?

I would guess: The general election. Hurricanes. College football. College basketball. Things involving USC and ND. Legal rulings. Monkeys. Anything which allows him to work in a Jean-Luc Picard quote. Blockbuster movies in the fantasy/superhero realm. Astronomy. His pets. The goings-on of Newington, CT.

Essentially, Brendan gets obsessed about certain subjects, focuses on them to extreme levels for a while, then bounces to a new subject as his attention drifts. That's just who he is. But if you're annoyed by his latest focus on Clinton, well...you could always try not reading his blog...

Wobbly is a dumbass. F-off.

Hit a nerve there, Max?

No. I just think you are a clueless fuck if you think all Brendan posts about is Hillary.

You must be a Hillary supporter. Frankly, I'm tired of the Hillary supporters getting all upset that their
"Victim in Chief" isn't getting the nomination. I'm glad to see some prominent women authors, such as Doris Kearns Goodwin, and feminists are coming out and saying Hillary's campaign of crying gender bias is doing more harm than good to women. It seems to me the failures of her campaign can be blamed on everyone but HER. I think Americans are tired of the blame game. Hillary needs to get out.

In other words, Wobbly hit a nerve.

It's not my blog, why would it hit a nerve?

Why did you tell Wobbly H to F-off?

Because his criticism of Brendan was off base. Whatever your critcism of Brendan Loy's blog might be, being a "one trick pony" focused solely on Hillary Clinton's campaign shouldn't be one of them since Brendan covers a lot of ground (some of it boring, I will admit. But still, he isn't a "one trick pony.") That would be Paul Simon.

Heh. But don't you mean Art Garfunkel?

*clap* *clap*

WTF? Paul Simon?

Anon, Max was just taking his turn as one of Brenners' sycophants. Davie K. must have had the day off.

Or, you know, he disagrees with you on the merits, for reasons he just explained in detail, and you haven't bothered to rebut.

Ah, but I guess that's inconceivable. Independent thought cannot be ascribed to my defenders; only my critics actually have their own individual opinions. I forgot. All commenters who don't tow the Wobbly/Leahy line -- i.e., all those who don't find this blog community, in which they choose to participate, utterly contemptible -- are my "sycophants." This remains true even if I've never met them in my life, and we disagree about stuff all the time, and indeed have gotten angry at one another, called each other names, etc., on numerous occasions. It also remains true no matter how logical and well-defended their stated opinions are, on their merits. Right. Your logic is inescapable, Wobbly. I surrender to your superior wisdom. Carry on.

P.S. I just fed the troll, didn't I?

*sigh*

Don't feel bad Brendan, there's always the small chance that the wisdom of what you said will some how find a way to squirm through the cracks in his thick thick skull and ACTUALLY reach his brain, where it will maybe, JUST maybe kick start the critical thinking areas of his brain. Hey, it COULD happen.

I think the Paul Simon/One Trick Pony thing was a reference to the Paul Simon song/movie.
