Oregon/Kentucky/Idol open thread
The polls close at 6:00 PM EST in most of Kentucky, 7:00 PM in western counties. Oregon is mail-in only; last ballots are due at 11:00 PM. Oh, and the American Idol finale is from 8:00 to 9:00.
Barack Obama's big Iowa rally is at 8:30 PM, which creates an odd dilemma for him: how is he going to declare that he's won a majority of pledged delegates before the polls have even closed in Oregon? Admittedly, it's a foregone conclusion that he will secure the majority tonight -- with or without Florida and Michigan -- and indeed, he will probably secure the non-Florida/Michigan pledged-del majority based on Kentucky alone. But isn't it a bit unseemly to either: a) declare quasi-victory based on a 20-point loss; or b) declare quasi-victory based on presumed results from a state whose polls aren't even closed yet? And yet if he waits until 1:00 AM or whenever, everyone will already be asleep.
Of course, as a commenter on Pablano's site points out, maybe it doesn't matter, since everyone will be watching Idol anyway. (I don't even know who the finalists are. Okay, check that, I just looked it up: the finalists are David Archuleta and David Cook. But I honestly haven't been paying any attention. And I'm apparently not alone.)
Anyway, leave your predictions, comments, observations, etc. (about any of the three contests) here. I'm not sure how much live-blogging I'll be doing. The last several nights, after putting Loyette to bed, Becky and I have been (finally) watching the first season of Lost on DVD -- I know, we're so hip and with it! Viva 2004! -- and I have a feeling she won't want to watch Wolf when she could be watching Jack.
Oh, and no Lost spoilers, please. And by "spoilers," I mean "anything that has happened in the last four years." Thanks. :)

Your "not alone" link points no where. On a related note I'm not sure whether to be proud or sad that the two finalists are both named David...

Obama will win the majority of pledged delegates with Kentucky...Oregon is just the icing.

Congrats on becoming a Lostie!!!
My gf is a huge Idol fan...but we both agree that this season is craptastic.

It's a little late in the game to not want to get a LOST spoiler, aren't you?
Seriously though, the story is so whacked out that I don't know if anything anyone tells you is really spoiling anything anyway.
As far as Idol is concerned, I watched pretty religiously through the selection of the final 12. Since then, I've pretty much just caught it as I remembered it was on. I think that all of the guys that made the final 12 were better than all the ladies, so seeing the Davids at the end isn't that shocking to me. Honestly, I don't care this year. Maybe Idol has jumped the shark/sofa this season.
As far as the primaries in the Commonwealth and Oregon are concerned, I could honestly care less about that than I care about Idol. Which is saying a lot. Or not saying much. Whichever.

David Enchilada, as Son of Tbone likes to call him, warbled his way along with his usual sappy performance. Like nails on a chalkboard. Of course the judges fawn all over him like a puppy dog. Blech.

Looks like all the teenage girls had their phones taken away by daddy, Enchilada is going to lose according to Dial-Idol's estimations

"Still, there were signs of Democratic discord in surveys of voters as they left polling places in Kentucky, especially among working-class whites. Only a third of Clinton voters — and half of Democratic primary voters overall — said they would vote for Obama over McCain in November.
One in five white voters called race an important factor in their vote; they supported Clinton 4-1."
Funny how stats like this are not discussed ad nausea on the talk shows or splashed all over the blogs constantly but when Obama gets 80% of the black vote its a talking point for at least two days. This says a lot of about America and its not a good thing.

Are you serious?? After the West Virginia primary, the blogs and newsies were falling all over themselves reporting how West Virginians were basically hillbilly racists.
Look back a few weeks on this blog and you can even see where Brendan walked that tightrope (which I do not believe he was calling them racist).
You know, heaven forbid I don't think the black man should be our President. It has to be that I'm a racist, not that I don't agree with his politics. Whatever.
You keep beefing how the "man is keeping you down" Cornhusker.

While I'd like to say I appreciate your magnanimous interpretation of my words, I should probably point out that the alternative interpretation would make no sense whatsoever, since in fact the whole point of the post in question was to explicitly criticize "the blogs and newsies [for] falling all over themselves reporting how West Virginians were basically hillbilly racists."
Re-read the post, dude. I wasn't walking any damn "tightrope." I was making precisely the point you just made.

Haha, I'll be blogging the finale arrivals for the AI site, so we can pretend you've been watching :)
