Obama-Clinton: "terminal insanity"

Dick Morris disses the "dream" ticket:

It would be an act of terminal insanity for Barack Obama to name Hillary Clinton as his vice presidential candidate. It would not help him get elected, it would drag all the Clinton controversies into the general election, and having her down the hall in the West Wing would be a recipe for disaster, dissension and civil war. Other than that, it's a hell of an idea!

Heh. Indeed.

Read the whole thing. (And read my previous anti-dream-ticket posts here and here.)

Relatedly, from Politico:

Greg Sargent spends some time making the very good point that Obama doesn't do notably worse against McCain with working-class white people in much polling than Hillary does -- a lesson in the danger of reading primary results into the general election.

Don't confuse us with facts!

Fixed. Thanks.

Sargent's post isn't much of an analysis. He didn't look at Catholics, independents, or Hispanics -- all key swing groups with whom Obama has been getting trounced. His analysis also ignores motivation and turnout; the percentage spread is only half the equation (winning by 7% with 65% turnout is a lot more powerful than winning by 7% with 50% turnout). There may very well be some data that shows Obama is more competitive against McCain with these groups than he is being given credit for, but Sargent's simplistic analysis doesn't provide that by any means whatsoever. Obama sycophants can take comfort in Sargent's soothing story if they want, but sobering truth is more useful than baseless optimism.

For once I agree with something Dick Morris has to say. Of course, who would question the judgment of a guy who would write a sequel to "The Prince".

Alternatively, there's been some "Hillary for SCOTUS" buzz y'know. Given the high probability of upcoming Vacancies. So, whaddayez all think of That? / Of course if struck, any such Deal would have to, you know, Not Exist. Corrupt Bargain and so forth. My man Barack, being the President who will Change the way Things are Done in Washington, would never entertain such a negotiation. / Therefore I say, let the winking & nodding Begin :}.
