No candidates at Kentucky Derby
The Kentucky Derby is today, Saturday. Post time is 6:04 PM Eastern.
Alas, my vision of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton making dueling appearances at the racetrack -- in anticipation of the Kentucky primary, two weeks and three days hence -- will not be fulfilled. But Chelsea Clinton will be there! And Hillary did briefly don a Derby hat during a visit to Louisville on Thursday.
Well, it looks better on her than it would on Barack, I suppose. :)
Meanwhile, both candidates have announced their Derby picks, taking the concept of the political "horse race" beyond the metaphorical. Obama is picking Colonel John to finish first, Pyro to finish second, and Big Brown to finish third. Clinton has only announced her first-place choice: Eight Belles, the lone filly in the race. Heh. Girl power!

"Clinton has only announced her first-place choice: Eight Bells, the lone filly in the race."
Belles, Brendan. Eight Belles. You're missing the nautical/southerncultural/technically-bilingual Pun. :> But that aside, surely it's a bold Pick at 20 to 1 & an admirably-Testicular [Ovarian?? :] roll of the Dice {apologies to Bill :}, by a feisty gal with more Homestates to Go to than can be readily kept Track of. :)
A few more days for to tote the weary load,
No matter, 'twill never be light;
A few more days till we totter on the road,
Then my old Kentucky home, goodnight.
Weep no more my lady
Oh! weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the Old Kentucky Home far away.
(This concludes today's ambiguously-oracular lyrical crossreference. :)

Hmm. Well, it was ABC News's spelling error, not mine. But ESPN confirms that you're right, so I'll change the spelling. :)

P.S. Doesn't that song say something about Barack Obama being gay? What? Oh. Nevermind. :P

Per Chris A: Denis of Cork is owned by the Warren family, as in Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course. I think they are an oil family from Tulsa.

Cool. I was sort of planning on rooting for Denis of Cork anyway, just because of his name, but now I definitely will.

But speaking of the Dark horse, let's note that in the run-up to post-time at Churchill Downs, she's trailing in Guam ;}.
A propos of which, are ya Like Me? Have you noticed of late that per the MSM Cablecommentariat :> there seem to be not merely Two rigidly-differentiated classes in the Delegate Caste System, but now Three? Being, in descending order of social acceptability: (a) the saintly "Elected" delegates; (b) the profane "Super" delegates, who might blasphemously presume to Veto the sacred will of The Elect; and (c) the laughably leprous "delegates" [sic ] from U.S. Territories with no Electoral Votes ~ a cursed collection of untouchables who may dare to think that their Rules-allotted "votes" [sic] are somehow Real.
This Tripartite structure of the delegate Pecking order has been recently revealed by "liberal" [sic] opinionmongers who, like me, support Obama, and who (Unlike me) alternately Snicker and Moan at the hilarious & hideous prospect that he might Lose the nomination due to the votes of Island-dwelling Puerto Ricans outweighing those of nativeborn Regular Americans.
IOW ~ memo to Chris Matthews: shut the hell up. :> You think Philly so Better than San Juan? I know a Bus you can Get On. ;)

Hillary's horse died. Is that some sort of dark omen?
