About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

NCAA demonstrates common sense; Hell freezes over

Remember Barack Obama's pick-up game with the North Carolina Tar Heels? Well, technically speaking, it violated NCAA rules. But for once, the NCAA is taking a sensible line: "This was a unique situation and not an NCAA issue," said a spokesman. "It certainly was a great opportunity for the student-athletes to interact with a presidential candidate."

speaking of ncaa basketball, tyler hansborough's brother committed to nd earlier this week. nd might play unc in the preseason tourney next year so even though hansborough won't be able to play the game will get a ton of press not to mention the likely top 10 preseason rankings each time will have.

They both be in the same tournament for sure, but being two of the top teams in the tournament, they likely won't be matched against each other in the 1st round and might even be 1 and 2, requiring both teams to win two games before getting to the championship. Hopefully for ND they play better than they did down in the Caribbean this past fall...
