About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

So if you finish second you have to die?!?! Jesus.

Hillary better start distancing herself from those filly comments ASAP.

Only female in race finishes second, is immediately euthanized...uh oh.

Isn't it a bit ominous that Hillary's pick finished second and had to be immediately euthanized?

This is a serious question. If Eight Belles were a stud rather than a filly would she still have been euthanized given the breeding money to be earned? You laugh, but I once saw the horse Rock of Gibralter in person and the owner said that he breeded 365 days a year at 30-40k a pop (no pregnancy guarenteed). I demand to know: WAS EIGHT BELLES' KILLING SEXIST?

I want to know if Hillary cried.

Is there a primary coming up? (i.e. Is the pope Catholic?)

"Eight Belles ran her heart out -- and she was all heart. Eighteen males finished behind her. The nearest, Denis of Cork, was 2¾ lengths in her wake and overmatched, while the others staggered toward the wire outclassed not only by Big Brown, but by the only filly in the field whose effort will be remembered in eulogy rather than history."

Wow. You just replace "Eight Belles" with "Hillary" and "Dennis of Cork" with "John Edwards" and it sounds almost prophetic. And the winner is "Big Brown." Ha!

I'm glad someone besides me finally broke the ice on the "Big Brown" comment.

All I have to say is Hillary better tape up her ankles. That's just too much of a bizarre coincidence.

I have a feeling Hillary's cankles are a bit more robust than Eight Belles'.

Yes, but Eight Belles wasn't running on heels.

I don't get it. If Hillary's the filly, who plays the role of the stud?

Huma?

*ducks*
