Big CA gay marriage ruling tomorrow
The California gay marriage decision will be released tomorrow at 1:00 PM EST.
Needless to say, if the California Supreme Court were to legalize gay marriage (or otherwise reach a decision that sets up an immediate statewide political battle over the issue, as envisioned in the final paragraph here), it would throw the national political scene for a massive loop. It'll be very interesting to see what happens.
Andrew Sullivan has more.

A long time friend of mine...Karen Shain...is one of the name plaintiffs in the case and is of course anxiously awaiting the decision. She and her long-time partner had been about to be married in San Francisco several years ago when the injunction was issued precluding further marriages.

But the real question is, can we marry aliens? Or does this question belong in the thread down below?

Andrew - American citizens have been able to marry aliens all along ... my wife married an alien with the full recognition of the State of California when she married me almost 30 years ago ...

Silly US News. The court has already mandated that domestic partnerships have the same benefits as marriage even from private corporations. Their choices are:
1) Say that the State Constitution guarantees equal protection and that applies to marriage as well.
2) Say that Proposition 22 only applies to marriages performed out of state, since existing legislative statute already covered in-state marriages, signed by Jerry Brown in 1978, and allow the legislature to amend the legislative statute but not Prop 22.
3) Say that domestic partnerships are substantively identical to marriage and therefore there is no need to change any statutes.
Or they could do #2 and #3 together...

Breaking News from CNN - The ban has been struck down. Gay marriage is now legal in California.
Interestingly enough, that "clapping" sound you hear in California isn't applause.
