I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

Another Comcast update

Hmm...

Not so good. Nadine, where can I get that "testing program" you mentioned?

P.S. To be clear, this is not my typical speed with Comcast. Usually, my download speed is in the 5000-6000 range. However, my connection was crawling last night, which is the same sort of intermittent issue I was experiencing prior to my apparently-successful visit from Comcast techs on Saturday. Hence my concern.

WOW!! That's not even funny.

Brendan, the program I used is propriatary to the wonderful company I work for.

I do know of a PC program Broadband Speed Test 1.3. www.download.com/Broadband-Speed-Test/3640-2085_4-10532940.html
I don't know if there's a Mac version.
You could get Parallel and run a PC partition on your Mac.

A cnet.com search on "Comcast" will give you some interesting articles.

Also I didn't see you mention the Atlantic Internet Line incident:

On another note, Loyette looks super cute!

Brendan,

I had similar problems with my Time Warner Cable here in Kansas City. Their tech figured out the real problem with my low signal strength and they fixed it.

They not only replaced my 20-year old splitters, they replaced the 20-year old cable from the box to our house. Works great now so I'd say have them check your signal strength where it comes in - you probably need a new drop.

Damn, that sucks! I think if you ran dial-up on an optimizer you would be getting something similar with much less expense. What a rip off.
