About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

And a Trojan shall lead them

Fellow "Irish Trojan" Katherine Kirkpatrick, who, like me, attended USC for undergrad (she's even a Daily Trojan alum), and who is now a rising 3L at Notre Dame, was elected NDLS's new SBA president in a runoff election last week. She will be inaugurated on Sunday.

A Trojan at the helm of the Notre Dame Law School student body: I love it!! Finally, Operation: Trojan Horse can proceed as planned! ;) Just kidding. Seriously, congratulations, Katherine!

In addition, an anonymous tipster informed me that A.J. Bellia and Lloyd Mayer -- the latter being my former Election Law professor and adviser for my Electoral College paper, the former being one half of the school's recent professorial retention coup -- finished tied in the initial balloting for NDLS Professor of the Year. That led to a run-off, which Professor Bellia narrowly won. Congrats to him, and to Professor Mayer for his close second-place finish; they're both great professors, and well deserving of the recognition.

Not quite related, but I'm back on campus this weekend for a series of meetings. In one of the meetings, they handed out a pamphlet titled something like "Affording A Notre Dame Education." Inside, there's clearly a picture of a law school class and a picture of you on your Mac in this class.

Ha! Sweet.

I found it online! It's on Page 8. That's Tidmarsh's CivPro class first year, and me with my old 12-inch PowerBook (the one that got stolen in L.A.). But what am I doing with my hands? Also, Chris Drewry is making an amusing face. LOL.

I remember that day the camera guy was there. Thanks for the heads up!

Trojans Rule! Congratulations to Katherine.

I never took an AJ Bellia class, but I can attest that Lloyed Mayer is frickin' awesome. Hopefully he'll win the award next year ...

Oops, typo. "Lloyd", not "Lloyed" ...

"Lloyed" will be the catchphrase on my reality-TV show someday. Like Punk'd, but instead: "You just got Lloyed!" ;)

(Okay, so "Loyed" would make more sense, but the extra "L" is for dramatic effect. Or something.)

Well then what does it mean to be "loyed"? Does it mean "to be blogged about" or "to have one's calamity eerily predicted a few days in advance"? We need a definition here ...
