About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

The fandom that dare not speak its name

While watching a SportsCenter commercial last night featuring the Tennessee Lady Vols' head basketball coach, I came to a horrifying realization:

I think I'm starting to like Pat Summitt.

This is simply not acceptable. Pat Summitt is the enemy! She is UConn's nemesis! She is the anti-Geno! She is the devil-woman! It is the solemn duty of every good Connecticutian to resist the Evil Pat and all Her Works! I'm allowed to grudgingly respect her, but under no circumstances am I supposed to like her! Must... resist...

"We are the Big Orange Army... you will be assimilated... resistance is futile..."

Nooooooooo!!!!

Women's basketball ... yawn.

Go ahead and give in -- it'll be far less painful than trying to resist the inevitable. Pat Summitt quite simply rocks. :)

GASP!! Fight, fight the Evil!! You can do it! Geno for President! Chris Daly for Secy. of State! Keisha, Kaily, Tina, Charde, Renee, Lauren, Meagan, et al for all the Cabinet posts!! (Ummm .... maybe you should get out of Knoxville for a couple of weeks. Storrs is lovely this time of year... Just a thought.)

This is what happens when you start living in enemy territory.

But don't worry about it. There's no way Tennessee or UConn beats Maryland :-)

Maryland?? Are you kidding.

Maya will make mincemeat out of Maryland. mmmmm

Brendan, continue to resist. Eliminate the orange from your life. Embrace the blue and white. Savor its crispness. Watch Maya and the Huskies rock.

And afterwards, we can all take a tour of ESPN. :)

Go Huskies.

Geno looks like he just took a big ole gulp of sour milk. What's not to love about a man like that?

Don't you diss Geno, or I might start talking about Marv Levy.

Heh. Well I did pick UConn to win the tournament this year instead of Tennessee, so maybe it's just one of those years. ;-)

Go ahead. Marv and I have a complicated love-hate relationship.
