About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

Getting schooled by a two-month-old

I think I'm going to just start rooting for Loyette's bracket. While I'm tied for 243rd place out of 245, with a dismal prediction record of 9-for-20 (!), Loyette went 4-for-4 in today's early games -- she picked Davidson and Western Kentucky! -- to improve her record to 16-for-20 and move into a tie for 30th place, which means she's only 10 points (two first-round games' worth) off the lead. Remember, her bracket was picked via the modified coin flip method.

Did you enter a no-upset bracket too? that would be interesting to watch, not sure what you do with the final four and beyond, pick by ranking i suppose?

That Butler win is going to hurt Loyette some, since she had So. Ala. through to the regional finals.

Go Hoosier State! (3/3, with the weakest yet to play).

Heh. Yeah, between South Alabama and BYU, she does have some guaranteed point-losers going forward...

Meanwhile, Butler going to the Elite Eight would be the only thing left in my bracket that I could really potentially brag about. Go Bulldogs!

Luck had NOTHING to do with it, Loyette is just showing you her amazing psychokinetic abilities! ;)
