About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

Bubble Scoresheet

It's Selection Sunday!!! Whee!!!!

With no bubble teams in action today, the bubble pecking order is now pretty well fixed, so I've gone ahead and created the Official BrendanLoy.com Bubble Scoresheet (Word format, PDF format).

The one variable that's still in flux is the total number of bids up for grabs. Currently, I'm saying there are 12 spots available, of which 5 will almost certainly be claimed by Baylor, Kansas State, Miami, St. Mary's and Texas A&M, leaving 7 spots for the "true bubble" teams to fight over. But those numbers could drop by 1 or 2 if Illinois and/or Georgia win their conference championship games tomorrow afternoon. The scoresheet reflects this numerical reality.

Anyway, I really think this is the most indecipherable bubble I've ever seen. Championship Week has done nothing to clear up the picture, and as Andy Glockner wrote in an e-mail, "a lot of bids are solely contingent on how the committee feels about things that are very subjective." That's always true to some extent, but it's especially true this year. Hence, Glockner's statement that "you could see a scenario where Lunardi or I miss four teams or so, which is a huge number. It's basically a pick'em at this point." As a result, I've got a huge number of teams in the "true bubble" category on the scoresheet.

Below is an HTML version of the scoresheet. Again, for a printable version, you can use the Word or PDF file. As I said on Friday, I think it's very helpful to print out the Bubble Scoresheet and use it to follow along during the Selection Show. I'll certainly be doing that. Regardless... enjoy!

VERY LIKELY IN (5)
___ Baylor
___ Kansas State
___ Miami
___ St. Mary's
___ Texas A&M

TRUE BUBBLE (15)
(Assuming all "very likely in" teams make it, and all "very likely out" teams don't, and Illinois & Georgia lose, then 7 of these 15 teams will be selected. That number will fall to 6 if either Illinois or Georgia wins, and to 5 if they both win.)
___ Arizona
___ Arizona State
___ Dayton
___ Illinois State
___ Kentucky
___ Mississippi
___ New Mexico
___ Oregon
___ Ohio State
___ South Alabama
___ St. Joseph's
___ UMass
___ VCU
___ Villanova
___ Virginia Tech

VERY LIKELY OUT (8)
___ Charlotte
___ Florida
___ Florida State
___ Houston
___ Maryland
___ Stephen F. Austin
___ Syracuse
___ UAB

If being a hooker is ok in Swedan
then drug dealin is ok ?Bad logic
or Good logic?

Who is the victim the saleman or the
consumer?

Both have a need that drives them to cross
the legal line!!!
Both are acting and behaving in a dangerous game of risky business!!!

Lastly woman may not say that they
are selling sex but it is used as a
trade in relationship now days.
same or different?? True or False ??

It's interesting, I had the same 10-12 spots where I wasn't absolutely convinced a team would make it...here is how I personally ranked the teams:

1) St Mary's
2) Miami (Fla)
3) Texas A&M
4) South Alabama
5) Arizona
6) St Joseph's
7) Baylor
8) Kansas St
9) Kentucky
10) Illinois St
11) Villanova
12) Oregon
Out
13) Virginia Tech
14) Arizona St
15) Ohio St
16) Ole Miss
17) UMass
18) VCU

Dayton's profile is strong enough overall but the injuries set them back and I don't see how they get in?

Arizona St and Va Tech will likely either both get in or both miss. On paper they don't have enough but their on court play of late indicate they do.

I think Arizona has the stronger case between them and UK. The more you look at it the more I think Ole Miss would've made the tourney with just one or two more wins.

jalypso, your commentary on the relative merits of college basketball teams in the pecking order of postseason tournament invites is too esoteric for me...

Is VCU the swedish hooker? Is Arizona State the "victim" to Oregon's "consumer"?

...over my head, I guess.

I'm pretty sure oregon would be the drug consumer ;-)

sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!mf

I've changed my pecking order with Georgia winning, I would remove Illinois St and leave Oregon and Villanova. Just changed my mind after looking it over....Illinois St didn't beat any NCAA tournament teams this year and that was the final decision for me.
