About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

The Honorable Tom Lantos, z"l

The only Shoah survivor ever elected to the U.S. Congress, Tom Lantos of California, has died at the age of 80.

A passionate fighter for human rights ~ from age 16 when he escaped the deathcamp and joined the underground Resistance, until the day he died ~ this irreplaceable man will be sorely missed by all who love freedom.

Zichrono Livracha: May his memory be a blessing.

He was a Clinton superdelegate, too.

Tom Lantos was one of the Congressmen I had most respected and admired during my brief period of time on the Hill. He struck me as honorable and noble--something sorely missing among most politicians today. His being the only Holocaust (Hebrew: Shoah, as Joe pointed out in his post) survivor in Congress, the man was an icon.

I only personally knew of one partisan, the husband of my Yiddish teacher, He joined the partisans in Poland at age 16, and he fought with them courageously until the end of the war. She said of him, "He chose life."

The honorable Mr. Lantos made the same choice. He did honor to his people and to humanity.
