About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

The end has come

Stand, Men of the West! Stand and wait! This is the hour of doom.

The realm of New Line Cinema is ended!

(Perhaps not unrelatedly, in a story I neglected to mention earlier this month, the Tolkien Trust has sued New Line over Lord of the Rings profits, threatening to scuttle The Hobbit.)

Return of the King was good cinema, but Peter left out a LOT of heart and meaning. Let's not even get into the Scouring of the Shire, as I don't want to start a flame war (OR DO I?), I am talking about Sam wearing the ring for a short time in the book, the important message of mercy concerning forgiveness and gollum. Gollum falling into the crack of doom because Frodo pushes him in fighting in lust to get the ring back ? Sorry, no. It was better when Gollum's hubris causes him to do what no one could do - it was the mercy and effort at redemtion plus the perserverance of the hobbits that combined allowed the task to be done.

Ok I better stop. Damn Enviga.

SHARE THE LOOOOOOAAAAD

Scouring of the shire was the most boring part of the book, glad it was left out.

And the morons who put together the Hits and Miss gallery for New Line missed one of their biggest hits of the 90's, the first two TMNT movies.

I recommend the Angry Video Game Nerd's TMNT 3 review. I think it's on youtube. He essentially reviews all three movies and compares and contrasts. It's a nice blast from the past.
