About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

It's Groundhog Day!

You can watch Punxsutawney Phil's big moment live via webcast starting at 7:00 AM EST.

Of course, as we all know, tradition dictates that if Phil sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of competitive presidential primaries. If Phil doesn't see his shadow, Hillary and McCain will wrap up the nominations on Tuesday.

Or something like that.

Ahhh, Punxy. Punxy is such a hick town. I've driven through it many times - grew up 40 minutes away. Never went to see Punxy Phil, though. Punxy, incidentally, is what the locals call it, us being too lazy to call the town by its real name. Plus, spelling that . . . well, that's waaaay too much to ask, now isn't it? ;)

The town isn't nearly as nice as the movie Groundhog Day. In fact, they don't even take him out in the park, but on a hill outside of town. And most of the year, Phil lives downtown in the Groundhog Zoo.

Seems like he ALWAYS predicts six more weeks of winter...
