About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

Is Huckabee dropping out?

Mark Halperin's The Page has added the following event to the day's schedule, at 7:01 pm: "Mike Huckabee delivers a message to the people of Arkansas from outside his campaign headquarters in Little Rock." Huh? Does that sound fishy to anyone else? Sort of like Edwards's "address on poverty" in New Orleans? On the other hand, nobody seems to be talking about it, so I'm probably wrong. But I wonder. Did he cut a deal with someone? (With Romney?)

At least Edwards had the common sense to drop out early enough to help Obama. Huckabee is going to keep Romney from getting the nomination. Not sure what kind of deal he could strike with Romney at this point.

Well, it certainly doesn't sound like Huck and Mitt are on the same page according to this:

He preached at Bellevue Baptist in Memphis (that we affectionately refer to as alternately "Six Flags Over Jesus" and "Fort God"), and sounds like he's soldiering on. I have a hard time with the hard set evangelical line he's taken to reconcile some sort of agreement with Romney. It just doesn't wash with me.

"'Six Flags Over Jesus'"

LOL!!! :}

"...sounds like he's soldiering on."

but JayJohnson! Surely you haven't Surrendered to the Horserace?? Say it Ain't so. :)

I don't think the Darkhorse from Hope ;> is going to stop dead in his Tracks and call it a Day at the Races. / No, I think Mike's Message to the People of Arkansas will be more along These lines:

My fellow Arkansans, it's not over but still, it's been a long and exhausting campaign. Came time when even the Lord needed a rest and I find that now, so do I.

Therefore, I hope y'all can find the strength to tolerate the news that I am coming home to Arkansas for a while.

This will be a much-needed personal vacation from the rigors of the campaign trail, and I look forward to relaxing here, with old friends and new, in our beloved state during this interlude. In order to conserve and replenish our resources during this period, I am also suspending any purchase of campaign advertising for the present.

Understand, I remain a candidate for the Republican nomination for President of the United States. I congratulate my opponents on their campaigns well-fought and their victories hard-won to date; and I eagerly anticipate presenting my case and my continued candidacy to our party's convention.

Thank you and may God bless you all.

Then ~ when Willard Mitt, bowing to the mortifying SuperPooper slaughter, withdraws outright on Wednesday or Thursday & NomineePresumptive McCain graciously accepts the Crown & lays off most of the Primary staff & cancels the post-Feb 5 ad buys & the MSM gratefully reverts to Important news like Britney ~ the sly old Huckster quietly puts out the Word:

Stealth Campaign. Networking. Pulpits. Church socials. Homeschoolers. CONSERVATIVES, CONSERVATIVES, CONSERVATIVES. Word-of-mouth. Neighbor to neighbor. Shhh! Downlow! Kansas! Louisiana!! Nebraska! Virginia!! Mississippi!!! North Carolina!! Kentucky! Indiana, Ohio, & Pennsylvania even, maybe. / And above all: TEXAS, TEXAS, TEXAS!!! / AND: all the while, remember to KISS UP TO THE ROMNEY DELEGATES. Mitt's out; and his hardcore People are embittered, and unreconciled to McCain. (Of course they're also pretty pee-owed at Me, too, so be sure to be nice and make 'em feel very Welcome. )

:)

YEAH yeah, I know I know. But Hey: it's a Strategy. ;> Oh, sure, the McCainiacs would Catch On eventually ~ say, by late March :> ~ and Crank up their Tanks again before the battle gets Lost altogether; but Still. If I were a freedomfighter in Mike's Irregulars I'd counsel, let's Do it: because {as Letterman said of invading Iraq} we Can, and it'll be Fun. :]

He's still running ads in VA, and we don't vote till next week
