Why Teddy matters

Mark Halperin explains why Ted Kennedy's endorsement of Obama is a big deal.

Somewhat less of a big deal, but still interesting and potentially helpful: Kathleen Sebelius will endorse Obama later in the week. Sebelius is the governor of Kansas (a Super Tuesday state) and a rising political star who will be giving tomorrow night's Democratic response to the State of the Union address. Hmm... Obama-Sebelius '08? (Hat tip: Andrew Sullivan.)

P.S. As long as we're talking about Obama endorsements... what about Al Gore?

Yes, yes, yes, for all of Halperin's reasons & more ["more" to Include, quite Importantly, the potential Movement of Massachusetts into the Barackista Delegate Plurality column on The Super Pooper :], Uncle Teddy's endorsement (following hard upon the heels of Princess Caroline's :) is indeed a Big deal. // However, let the record Show that the Clan Camelot is scarcely Monolithic on the matter.

Now as to Al Gore: No, no, no. / The Saviour of our global Climate (for which, uniquely, we do NOT want Change :) will not Go Obama so long as there remains some possibility that Red Johnny Edwards will NOT Crown Barack after the 2nd ballot at the convention, but (being a Stubborn little fellow :) will instead Hang Tough for The Middle Class and hold the damn thing in gridlock Indefinitely. / At which point, Al & Tipper & Family will unobtrusively enter & take their Guest seats in the Gallery; the Floor will erupt in Pandemonium; the banned Florida Delegation will be unanimously Re-enfranchised in Full; and the 3rd ballot will Re-elect the Legitimate President to a 3rd consecutive term. :)

Re: Hillary's "Statement from Kathleen Kennedy Townsend"...

Not to be outdone, Obama will announce tomorrow that the ghosts of John F. Kennedy and Robert Kennedy have endorsed him from beyond the grave. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton is engaged in an intensive lobbying campaign to get the endorsement of Justice Anthony Kennedy. She's already supported by the comedian Jamie Kennedy and the author Hubert Kennedy. And John Edwards would like to remind everyone that he is supported by the WWE wrestler Mr. Kennedy. All three candidates continue to fight for the endorsement of Kennedy from Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Obama will campaign today in Kennedy, Alabama; Clinton, in Kennedy, California; and Edwards, in Kennedy, Minnesota.

;)

On a more serious note, with regard to Al Gore, I don't see the logic in him sitting on his hands and waiting to be drafted at the convention as the party's savior. If he'd wanted to be president, he could have just run. I'm not denying the possibility of Gore emerging from a brokered convention (though I think it's a mighty slim one), but it seems more like something where he'd have to be truly drafted, not something he'd be planning months in advance. Again, if he was really sitting around plotting this, why didn't he run?

Kathleen Kennedy Townsend endorses Hillary, eh? Keep in mind that she is basically the only Democrat who couldn't beat a Republican for Governor of Maryland, which is an overwhelmingly Democratic state. Sebelius, on the other hand, is a huge endorsement for Obama. In fact, I think it is probably more important than the Ted Kennedy endorsement.

Gov. Charlie Crist, of the Sunshine State, has endorsed Sen. McCain on the Republican side. With his golden-brown tan, sexy smile, and 70% approval rating this is surely good news for the GOP’s septuagenarian!

Charlie hit on my girlfriend one time in a St. Pete bar. One of my prouder moments, not because the then-Attorney General tried to seduce her, but rather because it allowed me to claim a $100 bet that I wagered two months earlier with a friend that he was indeed heterosexual.

For a second, I thought your name was "Max Mayfield," rather than "Max Maxfield," and I was all excited. If Max Mayfield ever comments on my blog, I'll know I've truly arrived...

I agree with "angrier" that the Sebelius endorsement is bigger than that by Ted Kennedy. Just an opinion. And Obama/Sebelius is not outside the realm of possibility.

Also, Brendan, you left out Kennedy from ancient MTV. Whom does she endorse?

Yes & if Max Mayfield's girlfriend is ever Hit on by Gov. Charlie Crist in a St. Pete bar, Florida will know that its Perfect Storm has truly Arrived.

:>

Yessh, well uhh, LOL on the beGoogledy "Kennedy" panoply, Brendan. :)

"...Obama/Sebelius is not outside the realm of possibility."

Sounds to me like the 3rd Movement of somesort of a Heartland Symphony :>, joe lance; but No, that's not necessarily a Bad thing :}. even if it Would mean that this isn't exactly Kansas any More :}. On the Other hand, how's about Obama/Kennedy? Let us dream of things as they never Were and ask, Why Not? :> Oh, hell, if only you'd give me VP Caroline instead of Uncle Teddy ~ Experience being more a Spiritual thing than anything Earthly ~ I'd Go for it in a, uh, Hyannisport Minute. ;>

When Teddy left that woman to drown, he ceased to matter for anything other than a drunken arsehole. The fact that he endoreses Obama simply solidifies my opposition to Obama.
