Yet another top QB commits to 'SC
USC has had an awfully impressive track record on the recruiting trail in recent years, especially in the area of quarterbacks. John David Booty was the top QB recruit of the Class of 2003; Mark Sanchez was the top QB recruit of the Class of 2005; Mitch Mustain was the top QB recruit of the Class of 2006. All three went to USC (after a brief sojourn at Arkansas, in Mustain's case).
Well, the embarrassment of riches continues: the Class of 2009's top quarterback recruit, Matt Barkley, announced yesterday that he will go to USC. (Hat tip: Andrew Leyden.)
Sweet.

It's hard to get excited about a High School Junior committing. My bestest friend and big-time Notre Dame fan was all jacked up over Jimmy Clausen committing to ND a couple years ago, he even wanted to come down from Northern California to watch his Friday night games at Oaks Christian (only about 517 miles from home), and well, we all saw how Clausen turned out.

In fairness to Clausen, Notre Dame's 2007 offensive line could have made Joe Montana look like an incompetent schlepp.

We haven't "seen how Clausen turned out," mongoloid.

Wobbly, Clausen was a total failure in College. His career starting record was 3-6. Compare that to his High School record of 42-0. Obviously, Jimmy should've stayed at Oaks Christian an extra year.

mongoloid
Thats right, can't argue the point so just use pathetic insults. Stay classy Wobbly, I'm sure the decent Irish fan base appreciate the way you reflect on them.

Clausen was a total failure in College.
Is Jimmy Clausen dead or something? I think he has more time at "College" before we can judge his work and refer to it in the past tense.

I think he pretty accurately argued the point that Clausen's career isn't even close to being finished. Any added insult was justly deserved.

Tits, I mean David K. This didn't require a Brenners-like dissertation on why Sandy's argument is too early to make, so I think my response, short as it was, sufficed. As for the second part, I think Sandy was trying to pull a little hair, so it was appropriate.

Not to be totally anal, but re Joe Montana:
Jennifer Montana sat Nate down and explained that much of his father's legend is the result of revisionist history. Joe, after all, was Notre Dame's third-string quarterback at the beginning of his fourth season. ''I wasn't as good as everyone thinks I was back then,'' Joe Montana said. ''I basically played like crap for three years.''

Mom is just trying to make Little Nate feel better. Just wikipedia Joe Montana to read about his phenomenal college career.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Montana
As a Freshman Montana came in as the 7th string QB, but his greatness was immediately recognized by Coach Parsimon. He lost a season due to injury, but his spectacular performances and comebacks and National Championship team is what makes his (collegiate) Legend. Most college QB's only get 2 seasons anyhow.
Charlie Weis has had top 10 recruting classes every season, and right now he has the #1 class, yet every season he wins less games than the year before. Surely this year he'll win at least 4, right? Even if he's stuck with Clausen at QB again.

David, this is Sandy we're talking about.
Posted by: kcatnd | Jan 24, 2008 8:45:32 PM
. . . yet every season he wins less games than the year before.
Nobody wins "less" games. They win fewer games. And your point is demonstrably false, as he won more games in 2006 than 2005.
You aren't particularly bright, are you?

No, he's not.

less (adj): Not as great in amount or quantity
Seems like less would be accurate. Of course no one is contesting his actually points, they are just arguing grammar, and in Wobbly's case using disgusting insults.
kcatnd, regardless of who it is we are talking about, using a term like mongoloid rather than addressing the points he is making is classless behavior (of which Wobbly is an expert, as demonstrated by his choice of handle). Sandy may be wrong about somethings, but thats still no excuse for being like Wobbly, Wobbly doesn't behave like he does because of what I or anyone else says, he behaves poorly because thats just who he is, and its pathetic.

Davie,
You should not be stating opinions on anything humanities-based or that requires reasoning, much less the English language and its usage. How to precisely use words is not something you can usually get from a dictionary. For your information, though, a good rule of thumb is "if you can count it, use fewer; if not, use less." Thus, you might say, "A hippo weighs less than David K." (not fewer) or, "the hippo weighs fewer pounds than David K."

Lighten up people....pretend we've had a few pints

I've seen this kid play. He's like a man among boys. I've seen some great ones play QB in the OC. Carson Palmer, Matt Leinart, Steve Beuerlein, Matt Stevens, Mark Sanchez, Rob Johnson. None looked this good as seniors, let alone as juniors. Give him a line and a couple of decent receivers and he'll do very well on Saturdays.

Of course no one is contesting his actually points, they are just arguing grammar, and in Wobbly's case using disgusting insults.
Actually, I demonstrated his point about Weis' number of wins was false, and others have pointed out it's fallacious to judge Clausen's college career after his first year.
Seems like less would be accurate.
The fact that you take your usage cues from dictionary definitions indicates that you're not particularly bright, either.
