About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

Washington DC given the ax

Some critics of Tyrone Willingham believed it was his unwillingness to make staff changes that led to his ouster at Notre Dame 3 years ago. Whether that was true or not, it can't be said this time, as he has fired Defensive Coordinator Kent Baer along with Special Teams coach Bob Simmons. Defensive struggles were one of the Huskies' lowlights this season, and many were pushing for Baer's firing.

You know that headline is a bit misleading.

Wow, i totally missed that Doc, haha

Heh.

No taxation without representation! Statehood for DC! Fire Mike Brey!

Shouldn't it be fire Charlie Weis? Mike Brey is WINNING games

Nope. Mike Brey is responsible for the failures of the football team, not to mention Washington's football team, the Miami Dolphins, Rudy Giuliani's campaign, and the war in Iraq. Fire Mike Brey.

Wow, DC is given the axe? I don't think the District has noticed (that's really what they call it - which I must admit, sounds really cool. "Yeah, I'm going to THE DISTRICT today."). Although people in the District probably wouldn't notice if the rest of the country gave them the axe - things would hum along quite nicely, and the government here would take a few days to notice that the country wasn't paying attention to them anymore.
