Rudy the Fascist?
The American Conservative, if you don't know, is a paleoconservative mag co-founded by Pat Buchanan. They're harshly critical of neocons -- in fact, they hate Bush so much that they endorsed Kerry in 2004. They don't much like Rudy, either, because he's got quite a collection of neocons on his foreign-policy team.
That said, I generally suggest taking anything said by Pat Buchanan, or anyone affiliated with him, with a grain of salt.

Remember, Pat Buchanan isn't anti-Semitic. He just hates Jews.

I don't think Buchanan hates the Jews. I think he argued that Hitler was misunderstood.
Anyway, both Guiliani and Mitt Romney are arguing for a Bush-ist status quo for our foreign policy. After the past seven years, I would hope the Republican voters would be smart enough not to go that route.
It took $1.2 trillion dollars and the lives of over 3,000 U.S. troops to figure out that neo-cons like Rummy and Wolfie were totally wrong in their approach. Just think what would have happened if Bush had listened to guys like Shinseki, Colin Powell and Lawrence Lindsey who knew how many troops were needed and how much the war would actually cost.

The thing that strikes me about Guiliani is that he's like teflon. Nothing sticks to him. I think he's the strongest of all the candidates in the face of criticism. I think it's from his days of handling questions from angry New Yorkers on the radio.

Have you looked at the guy's poll numbers in the early primary states? Apparently EVERYTHING is sticking to him.
February will be a Giuliani-free month. Expect this to come down to Huckabee and McCain with McCain pulling out the nomination.

Giuliani is losing support because he doesn't fit as a Republican. It's not because of his inability to fend off attacks.

Hrmmmm . . . the American Conservative calling Rudy a fascist? I guess it takes one to know one. (Well, one article is written by Glenn Greenwald - bet he never thought he'd get into a righty mag - but he definately cannot be called a fascist.)

Rudy can't defend the indefensible (his close relationship to a thug like Bernie Kerik, his exploitation of 9-11 for personal financial gain, his marital infidelities in public office that makes the Clinton Lewinsky scandal look like Eisenhower's discrete tryst Kay Summersby.

If you really think that Republicans aren't voting for Giuliani for these reasons, and not because he doesn't fit the Republican mold, then you must just have a better sense on the Republican pulse than I do. Marital infedelities aside, these are reasons that Democrats don't vote for candidates, not Republicans.

B Minich - as I understand it, on Glenn Greenwald's own site, he is known to suppress opposing viewpoints simply because he disagress with them (except when said viewpoints are expressed by his legion of sock-puppets) ... and that is one of the classic definitions of fascism ...

The American Conservative endorsed Kerry in 2004. That's all you need to know about whether conservatives -- of whatever stripe -- should this magazine seriously (or whether liberals will).
