I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

Not so awesome, baby

Dick Vitale will be out of commission until at least February due to surgery on his vocal chords.

Hmm... I'm going to bet on February 6 as his first day back. Why? It's the first Duke-UNC game of the year.

Oh no! What will the Dick Vitale stream of consciousness bloggers do without their inspiration? Get better soon Mr. Vitale!!!

I hope he is back by then. That's a nasty surgery and it comes with the risk of so many complications. My sil had a vocal chord surgery done. Fortunately, she's fine, though it took her a long time to be able to sing again.

Good luck, Mr. Vitale!

Vitale having surgery on his vocal cords? Does that mean he'll wind up sounding more annoying, or less?

In all fairness, though, good luck Mr. Vitale, and get well soon, baby!

I had the opportunity to sit next to Dicky V at a Drays vs. Yankees game last year and the guy is a class act. Probably like most people we see on t.v. a lot of his antics are simply "for show." He's a great ambassador for basketball and raises millions for not only cancer research, but for a lot of charities in the Bay area as well.
Get well...Baby!!!

absolutely horrible game commentator. genuine good guy nonetheless. i like him better in the studio. good well dick.

wtf, i had to submit this twice because someone thought i was spam. i didnt realize my comments were so bad!

I thought he sounded a little off this year....
