About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

Mike Tran says, "Fight on!"

Heh.

That's USC alum Michael Walsh, a.k.a. lex icon, at left, and UCLA alum Mike Tran at right, looking pretty sanguine under the circumstances.

(This is all because I won a bet, in case you forgot.)

In accordance with the terms of the bet, Tran's ride will be flag-adorned all day today and tomorrow. So there will be one extra Trojan car driving around the streets of L.A. (or Orange County, whatever) during the Rose Bowl.

Hopefully Mike will manage to contain his self-loathing enough not to drive across the center line or anything. ;)

Here's another shot of just the car with the flag:

Fight on Trojans, Beat the Illini!!!

Tran, you look like you've lost weight. Get back in the gym.

A few hours after they took this picture, Mike W. went to the hospital with an appendicitis. He got into surgery before it burst, but he had to miss the Rose Bowl and he's not too happy about it.

Poor guy! That totally sucks! Who would have thought that he'd miss the Rose Bowl, and I -- the new father with the New Year's Eve baby -- would get to watch the whole thing! (Well, I switched to the Sugar Bowl after USC went up 49-10 with like five minutes left... but up until then, I'd watched the whole thing.)

Get well soon, Lex icon!

Thanks. My airplane to Maui just landed without me, too. I can try again in a couple of days. This really stinks. But I'm up and able to do things like sit and stand and recline and use the bathroom without help. So there's an improvement. You never really appreciate those abs until they fail you. Good thing I went to the doctor early, or you'd be looking at that picture and saying "Man, that dude next to Tran is dead."
