L.A. Coliseum to seek corporate sponsor
There finally appears to be some progress in the negotiations between USC and the L.A. Coliseum Commission... but this part concerns me:
The school...will allow the commission to pay for a stadium overhaul -- one that would cost in the neighborhood of $50 million -- by allowing the use of USC's logos in a stadium naming-rights deal."In the interest of getting a deal done we have ... agreed to allow the commission to do a naming-rights deal and cooperate with the commission to get a single, prime naming-rights sponsor to name the Coliseum and put together a package," Dickey said. "As long as the money that was raised from that will go toward improving the Coliseum, based on the list of improvements that we feel are necessary and the specific deadlines by which they must be done."
Does this mean the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum is going to become the Office Depot Coliseum of Los Angeles or some such blasphemy? Good lord.
(Suggested corporate sponsor via Boi From Troy, who blogged about this possibility way back in September.)

So they can let a corporation name it or the school can pay for it instead, and they'd rather pick the corporation...wow...

Yeah, pretty lame, but if I can walk across Exposition to watch my guys instead of fighting weekend freeway traffic, they can call it the Gary Beban Coliseum for all I care.

Perhaps ND's alums can pool together enough money to rename it "The House that Rock Bought."
Then tear it down and burn the rubble.

Allowing the use of USC's logos... but what about USC's name? The MySpace Coliseum of Los Angeles at the University of Southern California?

Sponsored by Geico.
'Cause, you know, Mr. Slate pays well, but he doesn't pay THAT well.

Maybe Kaiser Permanente can sponsor it. They can change the name to the LA Colonoscopy-seum.
