Thanks for the heads up. I was wondering if this was indeed what I was seeing. I have a pretty clear view right out the dormer in our living room. Unfortunately, I don't have a camera good enough to capture this image, but it is a lovely sight.

Here in the San Francisco Bay Area all I see is a VERY bright moon, no nearby stars.
I was just using Google Earth to plot a course from my house to Aleppo, Syria where the dishes I cooked for tonight's dinner originated. Very cool, 7,100 miles as the crow flies over Greenland.

And if the sky is clear, but you live near a light-polluting city so you can't see anything?
