Bowl update
After Boston College's win over Michigan State in the Champs Sports Bowl, there's a four-way tie atop the Irish Trojan Bowl Pick 'em Contest among Gerry deSimas, Mark Gardner, Anthony H. and Hal Strickland. All four picked Oregon State over Maryland in the currently-underway Emerald Bowl, but in the also-underway Texas Bowl between TCU and Houston, deSimas picked Houston while the others picked the Horned Frogs. So deSimas will take sole possession of the lead if the Cougars win. If TCU wins, it'll be either a three-way tie among Gardner, Strickland and Anthony H. (if Oregon State wins) or a six-way tie among those three and JLR, Chris Healey and Lane Buchan (if Maryland wins). Both games are currently tied in the third quarter.
UPDATE: TCU wins, 20-13. So it'll be either a three-way or six-way tie. Oregon State leads Maryland 21-14 with 6:39 to go.
UPDATE 2: Beavers win! Finally, the Pac-10 pulls one out. Latest pick 'em contest standings here and after the jump. Also after the jump, scenarios for who will have the lead at the end of the day tomorrow.
Depending on the outcome of tomorrow's three games -- the Meineke Car Care, Liberty and Alamo bowls -- four different people could potentially take sole possession of the lead... or the contest could remain mired in a multi-person tie.
If Wake Forest and Mississippi State win, Strickland will take the lead. If Wake, Central Florida and Penn State win, Gardner will be in first place. If UConn and Texas A&M win, Anthony H. will be the leader. If UConn, MSU and PSU win, it'll be deSimas.
If UConn, UCF and Penn State or Wake Forest, UCF and Texas A&M win, there will be a multi-way tie for first.
Anyway, without further ado, here are the current standings:

I've decided I don't like your scoring methodology. Bowl games aren't like a playoff -- like the NCAA basketball tournaments -- where subsequent rounds should count multiples of earlier rounds to make up for the fact that there are less games as the rounds progress and to reward those who've picked the right teams to advance to the later rounds. With bowls, it makes sense to give more weight to the BCS games, or the championship game, however the multiples in your scoring system work against college football fans who actually value more teams besides who ends up in the top ten. There might not be anything special about the Oregon State-Maryland or Boston College-Michigan State games, but why should it take getting five of these games right to make up for getting LSU-Ohio State wrong? In hindsight, I think a 5-7-10-15 format might have made more sense.
Also, although the Holiday Bowl is played fairly early in the bowl schedule, I think the caliber of teams involved (Pac-10 #2 vs. Big 12 #3) support it being weighted no less than the New Year's Day games.

Hmmm. That's an interesting point, Andrew, and one I tend to agree with. By the way, when are you going to be a man and get your wife knocked up (like Brenners)?

Based on Bea's comment, Andrew, you're not scoring at all!
