About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

Don't the Aggies have a rep for being low class jabronies that always lose? I'm glad to see them living down to their standards, but JoePa's response was the funniest part of the story-- "Maybe they're right".

Sandy - um, what? A&M has a rep for having some of the most respectful and loyal students in the country - read "high class". The articles say that the UPenn fans were booing, but I would bet that many of those boos were from Aggies. Aggies don't run other teams down, except maybe t.u. The Yell Leaders usually have stories that don't make much sense or aren't that funny, it's part of the tradition. The Yell Leader wasn't trying to make up for that, since it is the norm. He made what I hope was a horrible mistake and I hope he is as sorry for it as I am, and the rest of the Aggie nation.

But you are correct in saying that Joe P.'s response was the best part. He is a class act!

It's embarrassing and the guy has been sent home. From the DMN coverage:

"He knew he just humiliated his university and was already packing his bags and heading home."

While some on Texags.com are defending the guy, it seems to me that the consensus is: age jokes OK, death jokes not so much. Which sounds about right to me.

Jim,
Where do jokes about (1) JoePa shitting his pants on the sidelines and (2) JoePa breaking his leg on the sidelines fit on your spectrum?

Wobbly,

Um... hadn't thought about it. It helps if the jokes are, you know, actually humorous...I didn't think what the yell leader said was even remotely amusing. I can't think of anything good on your topics. If you've got anything, tell us!

I did think this was funny

Penn State coach Joe Paterno was asked if he could still "do it" at a Valero Alamo Bowl news conference on Friday. Coach, that is.

"Holy smokes," Paterno said. "I'm not Hugh Hefner, ya know."
