About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

Tragedy in East Tennessee

Two nearby Knoxville suburbs, Loudon (home of Jay and Ashley) and Maryville, are reeling from a car accident Monday night that killed 25-year-old Shawn Bowers, an assistant football coach at Division III Maryville College, and left 25-year-old Trey Lefler and 24-year-old Matt Lambert in critical condition. This is all too reminiscent of the numerous tragedies that have struck Newington in recent years, striking down young people in the prime of life. Here's hoping and praying for a full recovery for Lefler and Lambert.

I was debating about whether to post anything about this, but I'm glad that you did.

Trey is the younger brother of one of my wife's best friends from high school. The girls in my wife's class basically considered Trey to be their little mascot when they were out as a group. Before Ashley's 10 year high school reunion in September, these guys were out with a big group of her classmates, and I finally got to meet him .He's a good guy and it is a terrible blow to an excellent family.

I'm sure the Lefler family would appreciate the thoughts and prayers.
