About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

WTF is that?!?!

Looks to me like it's just some kind of bug walking across the camera lens. Granted, I don't see any legs and the body at times appears to be translucent, but if it's an insect that has a translucent body and tiny legs such that they wouldn't come into focus, it seems entirely possible. This doesn't account for the comments of alleged eye-witnesses, of course, but I smell a hoax.

Its the ghost of Richard Nixon, come back now that Bush's approval ratings have reached all time lows! He wants his record back!

Those freeze-frames don't help much, but I agree. I suspect a bug on the camera.

The terrorists have a new weapon! Hello!! What do they sell at a gas station?!!!?! RUN!!!!!

Looks to me like it's just some kind of bug walking across the camera lens

Fair explanation, but people saw the thing live (not via the camera).

Josh,

I addressed that:

"This doesn't account for the comments of alleged eye-witnesses, of course, but I smell a hoax."

It's the ghost of John D. Rockefeller lamenting that he isn't alive to see $4 a gallon gas.

What in the story makes you think people saw this with their own eyes off camera? In the report I saw it seems pretty clear they were all watching a video of it.

I think it's a ploy to sell more slurpies.

I go with hoax, even though I was a little freaked out by the video and the eyewitness statements. I go with hoax because to glibly say, "It was an angel" or "Space visitor" would mean a world-shattering revelation of monstrous and terrifying proportions. I'm always baffled when you get these sweetly smiling people on TV saying, "It was an angel," or, "an alien spaceship fer sure." Why are you smiling? Do you realise what you're saying? Do you realise the significane of this? Aieee! (Hurls self through window)
