About me

I'm Brendan Loy, a 26-year-old graduate of USC and Notre Dame now living and working in Knoxville, Tennessee. My wife Becky and I are brand-new parents of a beautiful baby girl, born on New Year's Eve.

I'm a big-time sports fan, a politics, media & law junkie, an astronomy buff, a weather nerd, an Apple aficionado, a Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter fanatic, and an all-around dork. My blog is best-known for its coverage of Hurricane Katrina, but I blog about anything and everything that interests me.

Anchors Aweigh

I didn't explicitly say it before, so I just want to echo BGS and say: Congrats to Navy.

They played well, and hard -- as exemplified by this play. They earned this win. They deserve it. Well done, men.

Well, at least ND will get a really nice draft pick...oh wait, nevermind.

A lot of attention has been paid to Weis, but I think what Paul Johnson has done with Navy is remarkable. He has a team full of 5-10 guys who weigh 165 lbs who have good but not remarkable athletic ability. On top of it, his QB is not Roger Staubach. He has managed to develop a running game that is perfect for the skill set of his team. The 3-man option was so confusing that even the NBC cameramen had a hard time figuring out who had the ball. Truly astounding.
