Thanks, Jacoby
Thanks to Jacoby Ellsbury's stolen base tonight, Taco Bell will be giving away free tacos on my birthday. Heh.
Anyway, it's 2-1 Sox in the sixth.
Meanwhile, Boston College is staging a late rally after trailing Virginia Tech 10-0 for most of the game. It's 10-7 Hokies with 36 seconds left, and the Eagles are deep in Tech territory.
UPDATE: Touchdown Boston College!! Holy crap!! I think Matt Ryan just won the Heisman... and BC has broken the #2 curse! (Dammit.)
UPDATE 2: ...aaaaand Matt Ryan barfs on live TV.
UPDATE 3: "Ryan for Heismann!" Heh.
Okay, back to the World Series...
UPDATE 4: JACK BAUER IS ON HIS OWN!!!!!
UPDATE 5: Sox win!! 2-1, final. It's a 2-0 series lead for Boston, heading out to Denver.

I blame myself for the VT collapse at the end. I'd been watching the World Series, and decided to turn it over to check on the BC-VT game. I was shocked to see 4 minutes left on the game clock, with BC scoreless and stuck in their own end zone.
From there, the magic happened.
Sorry bout that Hokies.

WTF was up with ESPN spending so much time on Ryan barfing? I mean, seriously. They kept cutting to him when it was obvious he was throwing up. Give the guy credit, but that was some nasty shit on national television.

Darn! I couldn't watch the game tonight but that sounds like quite something-- scorring 14 points in the last four minutes of the game, and then having the star quarterback barf on live television. Think that'll end up on YouTube?
Wait, why was the star quarterback barfing again?

BC moves to #1 on my ballot, not because they're worth a damn or going to win out, but they are undefeated and have a quality win, which is more than the other unbeatens can say.

I agree. Although, if Ohio State wins at Penn State in a Saturday night, will that count as a quality win?

Weird, no text? Anyway what i tried to say:
What, you don't count Arizona States 45-3 win over San Jose State as a quality win?? ;-)

I don't know about San Jose State, but I think the 41-3 win over Stanford should count... after all, Stanford beat USC... that means they can't possibly suck.
What? Oh. Nevermind.

If OSU were on a bye week, I could envision the polls moving BC ahead of them. But if OSU wins against PSU, that would at least (finally) give them a quality win. Either way, winning out will be very tough for BC. They got very lucky last night. Their last 5 opponents will not be easy. They may well have a rematch with Va. Tech.

The Rockies look awful. Boston in 4.

Tacoby Bellsbury?
Love that kid.

I am okay with BC's victory here. Va Tech is now completely out of the picture so no dreaded rematch with LSU is possible. Meanwhile, I've seen enough of BC to conclude that they'll lose at least one regular season game (Miami? Florida State?), and probably either the ACC championship game or their bowl game.
Meanwhile, A&A, you're a bit premature. Boston has to bench either Youk, Lowell, or Ortiz for the games at Coors Field, Manny Ramirez will look totally lost in those giant outfield gaps, and the Rockies' bats will come alive. Schilling and Beckett (if either of them pitch) will not enjoy the altitude killing the movement on their breaking balls. I think Colorado wins 2 out of 3 in Denver before returning to Boston to lose in Game 6.

Okay A&A, you were right on this one. I knew the long layoff killed the Rockies' momentum, but I figured a return home would throw off the Boston pitching and help awaken the Colorado bats. Didn't happen. The only pitcher for the Sox who lost his mojo was the Japanese reliever, but in both games he still left with the lead. Colorado was facing an uphill battle anyway, but the layoff really did them in.
