There's no better Rose Bowl matchup than the USC Trojans versus the Michigan State Spartans. It's about time MSU started living up to their end of the deal.

My guess would be the Trojan War, when Helen (born in Sparta) was seduced/raped (depending on your version) by Paris, taken off to Troy, and brought about 10 years of warfare and the eventual destruction of the city.
In reality, I'm betting it's an ND inspired hatred of MSU, rather than a USC inspired one. ;)

It isn't that I hate MSU. Mind you, I don't much like MSU (present company excepted, of course), but I wouldn't say I hate them. I do, however, hate Sparty. I have no idea why. It's completely irrational. That said, f*** Sparty.

Sparty is awesome. He is one one of the best in mascot world at getting face time in front of the camera. My favorite is when he tilts his head on a diagonal, shoves his face in the camera an flexes into his roid rage.

Agreed. This season is the 20th anniversary of the last matchup -- the last two, actually, since USC visited MSU to open the 87 season. (MSU was, of course, victorious in both contests.)

Jay,
I think any 'SC fan is obligated to hate any Big Ten team for their unremitting and indefensible hegemony with respect to the Pac-10. So in other words, yes, Trojans cannot get along with Spartans. Brendan is simply being a loyal Pac-10 team supporter.
That said, I hate Sparty and I hate MSU ... because they always give the Irish a rough time.

You know, we've got our Dude On A Horse too. So "The Spartan" would be the more apt analog to "The Traveler."
Where's your giant foam-headed mascot, hmm? What would that look like, anyway?
Uh . . . on second thought, maybe Traveler's just fine.
